I always find it interesting and exciting how small details can make a significant difference in making your place feel like it truly belongs to you, a real home. Hello there! I am a music major student currently residing in my sister's San Francisco home. This is the first time I have a room entirely to myself, which reflects how I feel and how I desire to feel all the time. Upon arrival, I promptly decorated my room with all my cherished items, putting my heart into creating a space that would reflect my new life in a different environment.

Our country house is a two-story structure, featuring a living room and kitchen on the first floor, and three rooms on the second floor. I share this home with my elder sister and my twin. I chose to sketch the floor plan of just my own room, which spans approximately 285 sq. ft., including the dressing room.

When I moved in, the bed, desk, chair, and closet were already in place. However, I did purchase some additional furnishings after moving in.

image

I concentrated on adding home accessories and fabrics instead of new furniture pieces, attempting to blend them seamlessly into the existing layout.

image

I actually intended to put the desk directly in front of the windows. However, after careful consideration, I decided it would be better to place the bed, which is the largest piece in this room, in the center and position the desk against the wall.

Being a student, having a designated area to study and concentrate was crucial for me. Therefore, I carefully considered the decoration of this space.

image

I like to display my favorite childhood dolls on the bed. Although I prefer simple and clean bedding sets, I did add a beach-themed blanket to give it a bit of liveliness.

I decorated the walls with postcards and posters featuring my favorite movies and added a nightstand beside the bed. The nightstand was already in the room when I moved in, but I decided to keep it because its rich gray wood finish matches my accessories perfectly. I also hung a vintage coat rack above it to store my frequently worn hats. Below the nightstand, I placed my Crosley turntable, which has a built-in Bluetooth receiver. I love transmitting my phone's playlist wirelessly through the turntable's stereo speakers and enjoying the amazing sound quality.

I keep my favorite vinyl record, a candle, and some ornaments on the nightstand. I also repurposed a used Aesop bottle as a flower pot and covered the nightstand with a piece of fabric.

I installed a mood lamp as a night light, it casts a subtle glow that makes the space feel more cozy.

I have a soft, beach-themed rug next to my bed that my kitty loves to play on. When she's on it, it's as if she's swimming in the ocean. To add some character to my dull wall, I have a moon lamp mounted on it that I've had for a while. Its warm and romantic glow provides a cozy ambiance. I purchased an IKEA GLADOM tray table to create a compact coffee station at home. The table's removable tray top makes it effortless to move around and convenient for serving snacks.

I use this tray to store snacks while watching videos on my Ipad in bed.

I ended up buying artificial flower pots from a mart, instead of natural ones because of my furry friend, but surprisingly, they look very vibrant and lifelike!

image

When I moved in, all the furnishings were already here, except for the 4-drawer trolley that I purchased at Ross.

image

At first, I wasn't planning on hanging up this tapestry here, but then I realized that the view of the Swiss Alps paired with the wooden desk would blend really well and create an indoor forest-like ambience.

image

My cat both likes to swim in the ocean and sleep in the forest.

image

To add some live to the plain white wall, I hung a pin board with my favorite postcards and pictures next to the desk.

image

The desk is not wide enough to put a table lamp on top, so I opted for a floor lamp instead.

image

I've placed an acrylic tray on top of the trolley to keep my stationery organized and to use it as a plate to hold drinks. Having a drawer trolley attached to the desk provides some additional storage space.

image

I purchased an iPad table stand to give my iPad a mini iMac look. The Bluetooth keyboard was originally bought for its sleek design as a decorative item, but it turned out to be highly efficient with its integrated stand. Plus, it's improved my productivity by keeping things neat and organized!

image

I got a tempered glass monitor stand with stainless-steel legs to elevate my monitor to an ergonomic viewing position. Thanks to it being clear and see through, it doesn’t add any bulkiness to the desk.

image

Check out the view I wake up to every morning! It feels like I'm floating in the middle of the ocean – definitely the best part of this room.

image

Initially, I wasn't sure how to design the room as I had no specific concept in mind. However, as I added nature-inspired elements, the space began to reflect my personal taste and preferences. Eventually, it became a place where the mountains meet the sea, capturing the essence of the beauty of nature that I love.

I always find it interesting and exciting how small details can make a significant difference in making your place feel like it truly belongs to you, a real home. Since I've recently moved, my room still has plenty of room for improvement. Personalizing it to my taste has made it even more enjoyable to start a new life in a new place, and has helped me form good habits and better daily routines. I'm looking forward to continuously finding joy in creating a space filled with my character and personal charm! Thank you, guys.
